How did you get into franchising with Chandler, and what has the experience been like for both of you?
Greg: I became an Alta Mere franchisee with Moran Family of Brands in 1994 after spending years operating independently in the automotive industry. Chandler grew up around the business and started helping when he was a teenager. He originally went to college to become an architect, but during a Christmas break, he told me he wanted to join the family business instead.
That decision changed the trajectory of my retirement plans and pushed me to think differently about the future. As an Alta Mere franchisee, I experienced the challenges of the automotive aftermarket accessories industry firsthand and saw opportunities to improve the traditional window tinting model. I brought the idea for a new window tinting concept to Moran Family of Brands—one designed to solve those challenges and create a more modern, scalable business model. That concept ultimately became Turbo Tint.
Working together has been incredibly rewarding. Chandler brings fresh ideas, a different perspective, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. By combining my industry experience with his innovative mindset, we've been able to grow the business.
Has your relationship changed in any way since owning a franchise together? If so, in what way?
Chandler: Working together has definitely made us closer. My dad is one of my best friends, and I feel fortunate that we get to spend so much time together both in and outside of work. We’ll work all day and still get together afterward to watch an Oklahoma City Thunder game or play golf. Over time, we’ve learned how each other operates and how to navigate disagreements. Our relationship has gotten stronger every year.
Why did you choose to franchise with a service brand?
Greg: I’ve always enjoyed working with people and providing something customers genuinely appreciate. Window tinting makes a real difference in our customers’ lives by improving comfort, appearance, and protection. There’s a lot of pride in knowing you’re providing a product that customers will benefit from every time they get behind the wheel.
How did you choose the sectors and brands you did?
Greg: I’ve spent my entire professional career in the automotive aftermarket sector. As the industry evolved, I saw untapped opportunities in several areas, especially window tinting. I brought that vision to Moran Family of Brands, and together, we turned it into the Turbo Tint franchise by combining technology, convenience, and a streamlined customer experience.
What are the advantages of choosing a service brand?
Chandler: Service brands allow you to build relationships with customers and provide a product or service they truly value. In our case, we’re part service business and part retail business, which creates a great customer experience and allows us to scale efficiently.
What are some keys to being able to operate multiple franchises at the same time?
Chandler: It comes down to delegation and having the right people in place. We trust our managers to run the day-to-day operations while we focus on supporting the business and driving growth. Technology also makes a big difference. We can monitor performance, communicate with our teams, and stay connected to both franchise locations, no matter where we are.
What are some of the top ways in which you have been able to market and promote your business?
Chandler: We focus on three things: Google, social media, and community involvement. Google remains one of our strongest drivers because that’s where customers are actively searching for our services. We also create social media content that feels authentic and local, and we stay active in the community through local chambers of commerce, volunteering, and youth sports. People want to do business with people they know and trust.
What would you recommend to parents who are considering franchise ownership with their children?
Greg: Keep an open mind and be willing to listen. You’re going to have different opinions at times, but it’s important to talk through disagreements and focus on working together instead of competing with each other.
Chandler: From the child’s perspective, make sure it’s something you genuinely want to do. I joined the business because I have a genuine love for cars and wanted to work with my dad, not because I felt obligated to do so. Having that strong relationship outside of work makes all the difference.
