A couple of years ago, Greg Goodman realized the auto window tinting business he'd been in for 30-plus years was not all it was cracked up to be, so he took it up a click by taking it digital.
The rest is future. Goodman's shop, Turbo Tint, 11700 S Western Ave., is the model for a new national franchise, thanks to his development of an online ordering and scheduling system that has customers in and out within an hour.
Not that they necessarily rush. Premium coffee, soft drinks, beer, wine, wifi, oversize leather chairs, flatscreen TVs and other creature comforts in the waiting room are part of the new concept debuting at the former Alta Mere location, where Goodman, his son and manager Chandler and crew now offer "Turbo Tint powered by Alta Mere." Both brands are franchises of Moran Family of Brands, based in Midlothian, Illinois.
Goodman opened the first Turbo Tint in October and has a second one in the works, also in Oklahoma City. Moran Family of Brands has awarded franchise agreements for up to 11 more in Florida. Goodman and his staff will train new franchisees and installers. The franchiser thinks that's just the start.
The online system, tested for a year and a half, proved itself in April when Goodman had to close his Alta Mere store to the public for all but three days because of the coronavirus. The shop took orders exclusively online. The store sold 250 window tint orders and increased sales by more than $10,000 over the previous April.
“One of the primary goals of creating Turbo Tint was to enhance the customer experience and give them exactly what they want,” Goodman said. “We made the ordering and purchasing process seamless and convenient through our website. Customers will be able to wait for their vehicles and know they will get the tint installation completed within an hour.
"While they are waiting, they will enjoy all the comforts of home with our customer waiting experience. We’ve had a great response so far and feel that this concept is a game-changer for the automotive window tinting industry.”
The Turbo Tint approach is so different, he said, that the Alta Mere brand will phase out as franchise agreements expire. The Alta Mere stores bear the name of the location of the first one in the 1980s, Alta Mere Drive in Fort Worth, Texas.
