The first Turbo Tint store opened in Oklahoma City, Okla., in October 2020. There are currently two additional open locations in Orlando and Delray Beach, Fla., with signed agreements for 46 more stores. The brand expects to open six or eight Turbo Tint stores in the first half of 2023 and anticipates having 18 to 21 stores operating by the end of the year. It all started with a beta test in 2019.
Full Throttle
Pete Baldine, the president of Moran Family of Brands, helps manage the Turbo Tint brand, which specializes in automotive and architectural window tint services. Under the brand’s concept, customers can purchase an automotive tint package and schedule an appointment online. When they arrive for service, they will only need to select their desired shade of window film.
The creation and development of Turbo Tint represents a collaboration between the brand’s co-creator, franchisee Greg Goodman, and Moran Family of Brands. Goodman operated his Alta Mere automotive accessories store in Oklahoma City for 25 years before working with Moran to develop an entirely new brand.
Together, Goodman and Moran partnered on a year-long beta test and split the costs associated with a new ordering system, rebranding and store remodeling. The end result was the creation of Turbo Tint.
“It’s very important to us to have strong relationships with our franchisees and support them,” says Baldine. “It’s about listening to them so that you can support them in the areas they need assistance in. You’ve got to hear what their struggles and challenges are. You’ve got to build your support programs around solving those problems.”
Continued Growth
Last week, Moran Family of Brands announced a new development agreement with Clear Window Solutions LLC to expand its Turbo Tint brand to the Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson and Houston markets. The first store is expected to open in Las Vegas later this year.
Turbo Tint’s beta testing phase in 2019 and 2020 generated several interesting concepts for implementation. Among them was a customer waiting area featuring oversized leather chairs, flatscreen TVs and computer workstations with free Wi-Fi in front of a fireplace. While waiting for their tint installation, customers can enjoy complimentary premium coffee, beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks.
In addition to Turbo Tint, Moran Family of Brands’ franchises include Mr. Transmission, Milex Complete Auto Care, Alta Mere: the Automotive Outfitters, Multistate Transmission, and Dr. Nick’s Transmissions.
“Turbo Tint is an emerging brand,” Baldine says. “Because Moran Family of Brands is a mature franchisor and has so many franchisees, the support team is already in place. Franchisees have the benefit of having a unique, emerging brand that also has the support infrastructure established.”
