Franchising Veteran Sees Promise with Growing Turbo Tint Chain

Former Chipotle executive, Erich Overhardt, opened a new Turbo Tint franchise in Delray Beach, Florida, in August, marking the first of 16 new locations in southeastern Florida.

The new Turbo Tint is co-owned by Overhardt and Bruce Bastian, who purchased the rights to four counties in southeastern Florida. The pair plans to add at least 16 Turbo Tint locations. They will also be the area developers for additional franchises in Florida.

“This opportunity came around, and I jumped on it. It felt right. It goes along with many of my personal beliefs,” Overhardt said. “At Turbo Tint, the customer experience is paramount, whether it is through the speed and convenience of ordering or being able to enjoy all the comforts of home in our waiting area.”

Overhardt, who will serve as the operating partner for the local Turbo Tint stores, has nearly 40 years of experience in franchising and is a premier entrepreneurial figure in the world of restaurants and business. He was a franchise owner for Little Caesar’s Pizza for 12 years and served as executive director at Chipotle Mexican Grill for 11 years. During his tenure at Chipotle, the Mexican fast-casual chain expanded from two restaurants to more than 600 locations across the nation that generated more than $750 million in revenue. He also led the expansion of Sotheby’s International Realty into the Florida Keys by acquiring and designing office space in Islamorada, identifying and creating a team of real estate professionals, plus creating strategic alliances and programs garnering a larger market share.

Overhardt is currently a franchise consultant with Business Alliance Inc., a franchise brokerage firm, and owns Nourish Healthy Vending LLC, which has 20 vending machines featuring healthy snack and beverage options.

Turbo Tint Offers Straightforward Pricing

Turbo Tint specializes in automotive window tint services. Its straightforward pricing and fast installation set it apart from competitors. As part of the concept, customers can purchase a tint package and schedule an appointment online. When they arrive for service, they select their desired shade of window film. The entire installation process is complete in one hour or less, and every Turbo Tint location features an upscale waiting area with comfortable furniture, fireplace, Wi-Fi, and complimentary premium coffee, beer, wine, soft drinks, and snacks.

In addition to automotive window tinting, Turbo Tint locations offer architectural window tinting solutions and paint protection services. Technicians apply a thin protective film to maintain the condition of a vehicle’s exterior from damage due to scratches, chips, rust, fading, and abrasion from rocks, pebbles, and debris from the road. Window tint options are available for residential or commercial buildings with the benefits of lower energy costs, excellent UV protection, and increased comfort by preventing exposure to sunlight throughout the year, which is especially important in hot weather climates like Florida.

“Window tinting is all we do. We have better products, and we are better at it than anyone else,” Overhardt added.

During the years Overhardt spent in the restaurant business, he implemented many solutions to “green up” the business and cut costs. “Window tinting is a great way to save money for a business or home, and the government also has rebate programs for both,” Overhardt said.

Experienced Tint Franchisor Propels New Brand’s Growth

Moran is one of the largest automotive aftermarket franchisors with six different brands, including Milex Complete Auto Care, Mr. Transmission, Smartview, and Alta Mere. Although Turbo Tint is a new concept, Moran has more than 25 years of experience in the residential and auto window tinting industry with its Smartview and Alta Mere brands.

“We are very excited to open the newest Turbo Tint store in Delray Beach and bring this concept to Florida,” said Peter Baldine, President of Moran Family of Brands. “Erich and Bruce have a proven track record for growing a business, and we believe they are the perfect team to expand the Turbo Tint brand throughout the state in the coming years.”

The new concept was developed by longtime Moran Family of Brands franchisee Greg Goodman and his son Chandler. The Goodmans created the quick-installation, online purchasing and scheduling concept; and worked with Moran executives to develop a new franchise brand. The cost of a Turbo Tint franchise ranges from $212,000 to $282,000 and requires a location with 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.
